Introduction

Hi there! My name is Chantelle Baxter and I'm a freelance web designer living in Melbourne, Australia.

I've been working in the digital industry for a little over three years now, and I've worked with my own clients, fulltime for various agencies, as well as contracted as a freelancer too. If you are looking for a designer that produces pixel perfect, exceptional quality designs - then you've come to the right place.

But it doesn't stop there! If you'd like to find out more about the skills I have and services I can offer you, please check out my about page. Or you can go straight to the juicy stuff and look at some of my recent designs.

Logo design - fun or not?

My general opinion about logo design is basically - I hate it. Logo’s are definitely one of the most difficult things to design, and I have a huge complex around “getting it right”. I’m in the midst of designing a logo for a client and I feel obligated to send them an update every hour or so just to see if I’m on the right track. Ridiculous really!

So I decided to create a little collection of the logo’s I have designed recently, which will hopefully give me some inspiration to create this new PB logo.

Will it work? Time will tell!

The Starfish Poem

I found this poem whilst doing Darfur research today - I thought it was beautiful.

Once upon a time there was a wise man
who used to go to the ocean
to do his writing.
He had a habit of walking
on the beach
before he began his work.

One day he was walking along
the shore.
As he looked down the beach,
he saw a human figure moving like a dancer.
He smiled to himself to think
of someone who would
dance to the day.

So he began to walk faster
to catch up.
As he got closer, he saw
that it was a young man
and the young man wasn’t dancing,
but instead he was reaching
down to the shore,
picking up something
and very gently throwing it
into the ocean.

As he got closer he called out,
“Good morning! What are you doing?”
The young man paused,
looked up and replied,

“Throwing starfish in the ocean.”
“I guess I should have asked,
why are you throwing starfish in the ocean?”

“The sun is up and the tide is going out.
And if I don’t throw them in they’ll die.”

“But, young man, don’t you realize that
there are miles and miles of beach
and starfish all along it.

You can’t possibly make a difference!”

The young man listened politely.
Then bent down, picked up another starfish
and threw it into the sea,
past the breaking waves and said-
“It made a difference for that one.”

Portfolio images are up - plan your work and work your plan..

I had two goals for yesterday - get the Darfur design finished and get my portfolio up to date. Unfortunately I didn’t end up doing either of them - so they got pushed to this morning.

My portfolio now features some work (yay) - and the splash page is up.. now I’ve got my entire week planned out in hour sections - and I’m already about 2 hours behind so I better get onto it.

Amazing how planning my work actually forces me to do it though.
